I do not use or want to use Apple Mail. I set up Apple Mail with a default mail setting using Microsoft Entourage I have set up Safari mail preference to use Entourage.

How do I set up Preview to use Entourage?

How do I set up 10.4.4 mail preference as Entourage?

This was so much easier (and better) in OS 9 but actually, I think you already have it right.

Open Mail and open preferences.
select the GENERAL tab and set your DEFAULT EMAIL READER as Entourage

That should set Entourage as the default Mail program system-wide.

HOWEVER... there is a little thing called an API - Application Programmers Interface - which in plain English is an access door to the Mail program from another program. This is entirely reliant on the programmers of each Application writing to the same standards, which typically, they do not. This is dumb as it means that some apps work together while others do not.

example:
• with Mail as my default, I can send a web page from Safari and a document from MS Word direct.
• with Entourage as the default, I can't send from Safari, but I can from Word - this is a limitation of Entourage
• with Thunderbird as my default, I can send from Safari, but NOT from Word

I can't send from Preview with anything.
