I use preview a lot to view my pdf files, and often search for specific words. When you use the find function it highlights the word in the text. Unfortunately the highlight colour is grey and is almost impossible to notice so i take ages scanning the page for the word. I would love it to highlight the word in orange for example. Is there anyway this can be done - e.g. some sort of hidden preference i can change. I am aware that if i can change it to aqua blue (via the system Appearance preference pane), but this alters the entire system appearance, and besides, the blue is not much easier to see anyway.

I would love to be able to sort this out, as it genuinely impacts on my days working in a big way.

Thanks.

Murray

Hi, I think you will find that this works for you, as long as we are on the same page so to speak.

When you want to change the highlight color used by your Mac or any other application, you are not limited to the 2 obvious choices in the appearance System preference.

What you have to do, is to open that system preference and where it says Highlight color, go to the bottom of the list presented to the item marked Other.

Once you select other, you can choose any collor you like and it will be applied to all your applications and throughout the finder. You can have the bright orange you want. I have to admit that the colors Apple gives you with the different appearance schemes aare a bit too dim for practical highlighting purposes, but using the Other in the list you can have anything you want OK.

IF this does not work drop me a line, it should work fine.
I am suggesting this based on an assumption that you are using either Panther 10.3+ or TIger 10.4 +. I think it was also available in 10.2 but I cannot guarantee that.
If it does not work, I would go to the library folder in your Home folder and lok for "com.apple.Preview.plist" in the preferences folder and trash it. Preview should then pick up on the new Highlight color for theSystem that you decided on, and use that.

Hi Murray

Sorry, there is no way of changing the color for highlighting in Preview.

But, if you do a search, click on a item on the search column, then click on the main window and the word will be highlighted with what's set in your Appearance Preferences.
