I am using OS X. I can't get my printer to work. Every time I try to install it I end up with the message, "server-error-service-unavailable" What do I do? Thank you, you have always been very helpful. Robert

Can you provide more details? What kind of printer, how is it connected to the printer, and where are you seeing this message?

I am using a Hewlett Packard 1220 all in one printer. It is attached via USB, the message is coming in the printer control panel that comes up when I am prompted to choose a printer. I am testing the printer using simple text. The printer dialog comes up with "No printer selected" pull down menu. I pull down to choose printer. It then searches for new drivers. The driver comes up for the psc1200 series printer (HP). I then click add printer. Then it cranks for awhile and gives me the message "server-error-service-unavailable".
Thank you,
Robert

Have you looked for updated drivers on hp.com? I just looked out there, and found a PSC 1200, is this what you have? There is a print driver available there for that printer that was from last fall. Perhaps updating the driver might help.

You also might try "resetting the print system" in Printer Setup Utility (I am assuming you are running Mac OS 10.4). Be warned that this will delete all your existing printers set up on your Mac.

That is actually the "manual" way to do the reset. If Robert is running Mac OS 10.4, opening Printer Setup Utility and choosing "Reset Printing System..." from the "Printer Setup Utility" menu will do that without all the UNIX shell commands in a Terminal window.
