Hey guys,
I just recently installed Tiger. I have Quark 6.5, and ever since I installed Tiger, there has been a significant pause after I click the PRINTER... button in the PRINT chooser. Actually, it has been doing that in all the programs I am in. We have numerous printers in our network, and I am wondering if I need to reinstall ALL of the drivers for Tiger to speed up or if there are preferences that are bogging it down somewhere. Thanks for your help.

Mat,

My name is Cheryl and I will be assisting you. When you upgraded to Tiger, what method of install did you do - Upgrade, Archive or Clean?

This is important because an upgrade may not have installed the printer drivers correctly. I suggest doing an Archive and Preserve install. This will not touch the programs you installed in Applications or touch your Home folder.

When you do the Archive and preserve, make sure you also include all the printer makes that are on your network.

As for the Classic side, while in Classic, go to the chooser and at the same time you select Chooser you must hold down the Option and the Apple key. You should hear an alert sound. When you do, release the keys and the chooser will appear. Now you should be able to select the printer without a problem. This actually clears the memory of the chooser and starts a fresh connection.

Hi Cheryl,
The new install fixed the problem.

Evidently, I DID do the upgrade install before. On the new install, I actually did an install and 'cleaned' the hard drive (NOT with the clean install though... I just didn't archive in the Previous System folder) and reinstalled my software along with 'reattaching' the printer PPDs. Now, things seem to be functioning quickly like I know they should.

Thanks again for your help.
