I have recently gotten a mac powerbook G4. I have an Epson Photo R200 printer that I would like to use with it. I no longer have the install disk for the printer. I went to the Epson web page to downlod a driver for it (the mac recognizes that I have the R200 plugged into a USB port). When I downloaded the file it was the "Epson Easyprint" program. I took a chance and went ahead and installed. I then went to the Print Utility setup and checked for drivers. It found some so I figured I was good. However the R200 still shows up in the "add" list as having no driver installed? How do I get this to work? I am a newbie with the mac systems and have only windows experience*note: I will never go back to Windows! Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Marla

Hi Marla,

My name is Vinko and I will attempt to assist you.

In your question you never mentioned if you were able to print anything from your Mac to the Epson printer. If this is possible you should leave it.

I understand that you may not be able to access all functionalities of the Epson printer, but that will depend on the driver installed in the Mac OS.

Speaking of Epson drivers, if you printer was not working properly prior to installing Epson's EasyPrint then please ensure that you do have to correct version of EasyPrint software from Epson's web site.

BTW: where are you seeing that the "... printer having no driver installed..."?

I hope this helps.

Vinko,

Thanks for your input. I have never been able to print to the Epson from the Mac. It previously used on a windows system. I am pretty sure that I have the most recent version of the easyprint, but I will check again. As far as the "no driver installed" message this is in the Print Utlility Setup window when I go to add a printer. I choose the USB option from the drop down and it recognizes that the R200 nis there, it just says that the printer has no driver. Thanks again for your help! Marla

Hi Maria,

Thank you for your reply.

Your experience is indeed strange.

When you stay you installed the "Epson Easyprint program", you did download the Epson Driver, didn't you?

The Epson Driver for 10.2.x - 10.3.x is not included with the Mac OS X, you need to install it from Epson.

I guess this is because the Epson Stylus Photo R200 was released prior to these versions of Mac OS X. In the latest version of Mac OS 10.4.x it is indeed included.

Please try again by downloading the Epson Driver and not the EasyPrint.

I hope this helps.

I guess that is where the problem may be. When I go to epson to download the driver, the site always takes me to the Easyprint program and tells me to download it. I have tried twice now and it will not give me the option of the individual driver. Do you know of a reputable site that has the drivers available? I really appreciate your help with this. Marla

Dear Maria,

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, the Epson site is the proper place to go. Although, I don't understand why you are not seeing all the other files for the Mac to choose from.

Please go to the following link:

http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/s...form=Macintosh

If the above link gives you an error due to session issues. Please follow the following path on Epson US site (http://www.epson.com).

Drivers & Support --> Printers --> InkJet --> Stylus Photo R200 --> Printer & Drivers - Macintosh --> Printer Driver v2.5aA

I hope this helps.
