TICKET ARCHIVE -> Print Problems Using Quark 5 in OS 9 or Os X

All of a sudden one day I am unable to print in justified format using quark 5 in mac os 9.

So what I did was to install mac OS X and reinstall the printer. Still the same.

Then I went back into OS 9 and upgraded the software to quark 6 but the same thing happened.

My only other thought was to rebuild the computer. And with that I have other issues since the only disks I have are the oeprating disks so I might lose the software to my dvd drive.

Can you help me?

Howdy!

Still not quite sure of the problem you're having. Do you mean the text in your documents is reverting to some other form of justification that what you want? What kind of printer are you printing to? Let me know.

The printer is an hp1200

But let me explain the situation and why I cant figure it out.

On my computer I have a document with a circular picture and I wanted to wrap text around it and justify it so that the words a re spaced nicely around the picture.

I tryed to recreate it on another mac but it didnt happen. The same file from my computer onto another worked just fine. So I dont kow what it is that I need to do to mine.

I think since Quark 5 doesn't easily wrap text around objects you'll have to do it in Illustrator and then place that graphic in Quark 5 to print.

Sorry, my last statement was incorrect. Path on a bezier curve has been around since Quark 4.

I think what you need to do is start from the beginning and go step by step to recreate what you want.

1. Draw the circle
2. Use the Text on a path tool
3. Add text, and make sure the font you're using is available/activated.

Keep track of your steps and if an error happens along the way you'll know what's wrong.

Do you want text wrap so all text stays horizontal or do you want the text actually around the object? If you want text wrap you have to make sure the object is above the text (hit f5 with the object selected to "Bring to Front").

Here's an example of the other way to wrap text around an object (not text wrap but actually having the text follow the path of an object):

Search for "path" in the article.

That is absolutely correct. The problem is that on my machine I cant get it to print the way the file shows it. Everything is right. If I copy the file to a similar machine installing the same printer then it works fine. I just would like to know what it is that is messed up on my machine and what i can do to fix it.

I'm still not understanding what's messed up on your machine. Does it look right and not print or does it just look wrong? I noticed with text you need to "render" it in Quark so that the text follows.

Are you using the exact same document on your machine as the other one? If so, is everything about each machine the same, ie., do you have all the same quark extensions loaded and enabled? If your machines are identical in settings then they will function the same.

Can you create graphics for me and post them somewhere? We're missing a vital piece to this puzzle that I currently can't see/understand. It should work on your computer if you created the text in exactly the same way as on the one that works correctly.

In Quark 5 you can use the Bezier Text-Path Tool to create a circle and then you can put text around that (following the path). Is this what you're trying to do?

No Im sorry but I guess Im being misunderstood. The problem is only printing out my work. Creating the file is no problem. My problenm is that after Ive created it and previewed it it doesnt print out the way it looks on my mac.

But if I copyed the file to a similar machine and connected my printer it will print out just fine.

So whats wrong with my machine.

When you work in classic you use your classic printers and settings.
Have you booted in os 9 and made sure your printer is set up correctly there? It sounds like your postscript isn't ripping your quark file on your computer so you have to make sure the correct driver and desktop printer are set up.

Let me know.

Im not sure how to make sure of the postscript drivers.

I did download the latest drivers and installed them. Is there a special process I shoudl go through.

The os im using is 9

Thanks

Yep, installing the drivers isn't enough. What you should do in your print center for OS 9 is delete the old printer you had set up and set it up again since you ahve the drivers installed.

Then do a test print with a simple text document. Then test your quark file.

Let me know.

I thought that that was what i did

I had gone to the chooser and removed the printer and then downloaded the new dirver and reinstalled it.

Did i miss something?

If you have already tried printing and have already re connected your printer I'm not sure what the problem could be.

Are you in 9.1 or 9.2 on your comp?
Natobasso - Dec 7, 2005 - 2:26 pm

And you downloaded the os 9 drivers, not osx drivers, yes?

9.2

But I had installed 10.3 hoping to resolve the issue but it didnt.

yes i had to download the os 9 drivers becasue my quark 5 needs the os 9 environment

I think you're confusing OS 9 and OS X. When you download a driver and load it and you're in OS X, it doesn't load that driver in OS 9/Classic. You need to be booted in OS 9 in order for the drivers to be installed. Did you do this?

Installing 10.3 only confuses your Classic issue further. I didn't realize you were trying that as a fix.

No matter what, ignore OS X for now, boot into OS 9 and then install the printer drivers and set up the printer again. Once it works in OS 9 then you can reboot in OS X and start classic and you'll be able to print in Quark 5 from OS X.
