I recently received a HP Deskjet 5160 printer and have been unsuccessful in trying to install onto my MACOS9.2. I have downloaded the driver from www.hp.com and also the stuffit expander to decompress the file. I don't know where to go from here and I am also very computer illiterate. Please help me.

Hi Nicki

This is the downloaded file that you should have for the printer;

OS_9_HP_Inkjet_Installer.sit

If you have the Stuffit Expander, then drag and drop the HP_Inkjet file on the Expander icon, and it will uncompress the file.

Launch the "OS 9 HP Inkjet Installer" program, and follow the on-screen instructions.

You need to explain what happens when you try uncompressing the file with Stuffit Expander, and what happaens when you try installing the files.

Does Stuffit expand the file?

If it does, what happens when you click the Installer?

You can download Stuffit from here if you need it again;

Hi Bob

Thanks for your quick reply again. I don't actually know how to decompress the file once both the driver and stuff it expander have been downloaded. I have the driver download and stuffit as icons on my desktop and really don't know where to go from here. I have tried to drag them into the chooser but that doesnt work. I seem to be missing a major step somewhere.

Thanks
Nicki

Bob,

When I double click on the stuffit icon it takes me back to the download manager saying that it is going to download stuffit again. Do you think I should download it again. I tried yesterday but about 5 minutes into the download it came up with a black screen and a big red cross??

Trash the Stuffit files you now have.

Use this link to download again. When downloaded, double click the file and see if it uncompresses.

Hi Bob

Thanks for all your help. I have now successfully dowloaded both the printer software and stuffit expander, i have also installed stuffit. BUT when I went to install printer after it had been uncompressed my computer now tells me that the printer software requires 128MB of memory and my computer doesn't have enough. Why would that be when I thought the software was the correct one for my computer. Have I done something wrong? Apparently I only have 96MB of memory. Seems a bit strange. Look forward to your reply.

Some software requires a min amount of memory. Sounds like this is your problem. You'll need to install more memory.
