I have a Color Style Writer 2500 attached to a Mac PERFORMA 6320. When I tried to print, it said I needed new ink cartridges. I purchased new cartridges and installed them but I am getting the same message. The cartridge case won't come to the middle to allow me to take out the cartridges and try again.

What do I do?

Are both of the lights on the printer blinking? Or just the smaller error light blinking to the left of the power light? Or Both lights simply On?
If you are just getting the message to replace the ink cartridge, and replacing that does not help - then the carriage may need to be replaced. It's also possible that the logic board is bad (the internal electronics for the printer) That's the usual problem when the carriage will not come to the center.

What do you you?
Find a replacement printer, unless you have a spare printer that you can use to swap parts....

When I get the error message stating that the ink tanks need to be replaced both lights are steady and on.

both lights are on steady, which is probably because the carriage won't move to the center, and is probably not moving at all. You can check on the right end of the inside, where the print carriage parks itself. If you can look down into the opening underneath the print tanks, you may see that some gears are broken. If you probe around, you will probably see some loose parts. Don't worry about breaking anything, as you can't get spare parts now, and the printer isn't going anywhere.
There's a technical phrase used for this - the printer is "junk"...
You could go on eBay to see if you find another like this.
