An increasing number of my users are getting the following error when trying to print:

E [14/Sep/2005:11:01:52 +0800] queue print: job creation failed: client-error-not-possible
I [14/Sep/2005:11:01:52 +0800] Queue: "Computer_Room_Printer"; job submission failed (err=-1); host/user: 65483.52.129/"Maddison Day"; title: "Family centre english.ppt"

We run a Tiger server with OS X 10.2 and 10.3 clients.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi, I'm Greg, your Volunteer Tech.
(caveat here - I've never seen OS X Server)

Could you please give me the line just before the E line in the error_log. That line plus the error line tells you more about what CUPS was trying to do.
The error code -1 means "queue element not found during deletion." Don't know what that is.

Also, how are the printers ADDed on the clients? (like: not added, just shared printer, or appletalk, or IP>IPP)

Hi

I have copied all error messages. We use Appletalk (for most printers) and IP Printing (for one printer only).
This problem is affecting an increasing number of users, spreading with no pattern/reason. Please help.

Aimee,
You've done a good job by posting more of the error log. This does explain what is likely happening - that the user database and/or user print quota system is corrupted.

Unfortunately, I don't have OS X server and have never seen this problem, and don't know how to fix it. Restoring from a backup or rebuilding the user list may be required.

I'm going to send this back to the rest of the Techs to see if someone else has experience.
