Trying to print an envelope from Address Book to an HP Deskjet 3845 causes the program to crash. Is there a software problem, or have I set it up wrong (I can print from other programmes)?

Howdy!
Have you done the basic "repair permissions" yet? That might fix your problem. Go to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility/Repair Permissions.
Let me know if this doesn't solve it.

Thanks, that clearly needed doing, but unfortunately it has not changed the printing problem.

Restart after your permissions rebuild and zap the pram. This is the "preference memory" and I find when I reset this, many things fall back into place:
command + option + p + r
Hold down this key combo on restart and hold them all till you hear the start up chime three times. You'll just have to reset little things like your clock as your system prefs will reset. Your desktop and other settings will remain unchanged.
Let me know how this goes.

Sweet!
Never forget this key combo. It can reset things back to normal. Of course, only use it after you've done the usual permissions and preferences stuff.
