Greetings,
I am having problems with printing on various Macs running 10.3.9, patched fully. I am printing to a Xerox DC3535 and an HP 5000n and some machines work, but others don't. I have tried setting up IP printing with both ip protocol as well as with LPD/LPR to no avail. I can ping the printer fine, but once a job is sent, the queue stops. Restarting does no good as it immediately goes to stop again. On one machine I receive the message "remote host did not accept control file (54). I have the latest PPD's installed for both machines. I have set up printing via Appletalk, Socket/Jetdirect and Windows and these protocols do not work either. My Windows machines have no problem printing and i can print fine from 9.22. I have run the disk utility and repaired disk permissions on all machines which can't print. But still no luck.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Martin

Hi Martin,
Please start by tell me some more details about your network setup - router, settings and IP address on each Mac, for example.

I am running on a Windows 2000/2003 network using a Sonicwall Pro 3060 router. Macs are setup to use DHCP with a net 10.5.5.x and sub 255.255.0.0. I have changed this to a manual IP on each as well, to no avail.

I guess you mean subnet mask 255.255.255.0 (which would be a single subnet)?
You don't have Active Directory running, do you?
Have you set the printers to have a static/manual IP address? That is the right way to go. And make sure the printers are in the same subnet, but not in the DHCP range. For example, computers are all 10.5.5.10-30, then make the printers 10.5.5.100, 101, 102, etc.
Let's do one printer at a time:
For the HP 5000, use IP printing > HP Jetdirect to set up all the Macs and then test them all.

I am using 255.255.0.0 and running AD. All printers have static and are not in the DHCP range.

Martin,
I'm going to send you back to the tech pool -- I have no experience with Active Directory.
For the benefit of the next Tech, does IP > HP Jetdirect work for the HP 5000, from all the Macs?

No, IP > HP Jetdirect does not work for any of the Macs for the HP 5000.
