How do you 'print the window' in Panther? Also, for some reason, my desktop icons are blinking when I first boot it up and they will not open unless I go up to file-open and do it that way. What's up with that? I have had some terrible problems with my Wacom that has a serial port running through a Keyspan adapter to make it USB compatible. I have had a lot of issues ever since I hooked it up (I have been running it in 9 and using Illustrator 9 with it, as neither are OSX compatible). I think maybe a complete wipe will restore my computer, but I don't know if I should try the tablet again. This setup used to work for me. The only difference is that I did a wipe about 4 months ago and installed Panther.

Thanks for any help...

Hi, Sandra. My name's Wes and I'll be helping you today.

Firstly, I'm a little confused by 'print the window'. I think this is what you mean though:

1) Press Command-Shift-4.
2) Press Space. Your mouse should be a rather large picture of a camera. As you move your mouse over different windows, it will hi-light them blue.
3) Click on the window you want to print.

This will save a PDF of that window on to your desktop. You should be able to print that PDF with ease. Getting a PDF of the entire screen can be done with the key combo Command-Shift-3. Is this what you wanted to do?

Your second issue: the blinking icons. This I've never heard of before and you may have to post another help ticket on Macosx.com to get more suport on it. But you can always try repairing file permissions. That usually fixes most of OS X's goofy problems.

1) Open /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app
2) Select your startup volume from the menu on the left.
3) Click the "Repair Disk Permissions" button.

If this doesn't help, I would suggest posting a new support question to address the problem more specifically.

What kind of problems are you having with your Wacom tablet? You may just need to update your drivers. Make sure you download and install the appropriate driver from Wacom's website.

Are you running Illustrator 10 or later now? If you're still running Illustrator 9 in OS X's Classic Environment, you're certain to run into issues. If it's worth it to you, I would suggest investing in upgrading so you can run natively in OS X if you aren't already.

However, if you are running everything in Classic, make sure your OS 9 installation has all of the components needed to run your tablet properly. Wacom tablets rely on important software that needs to be installed in any systems you're using it with, including Classic.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Wes,

Thank you so much for your reply. What I meant about printing the window (not necessarily a screen capture) is that I want a hard copy of what I have burned onto my CDs, so I need a copy of the window to make it easier for me to find what I want on my CD storage. In OS9 you can just go up to file-print window, and there you have it. In OSX it is a different story. I am going to try what you suggested.

As far as the 2nd issue goes, I will try 'repair disk permissions' and see what happens. This morning the icons aren't blinking, so I am not sure what is up with that. It was doing it for several days.

My Wacom tablet is running while I am in the 9 operating system (not 10 with classic running). My tablet won't run in 10. I am faced with either trying to make this work this way, or invest in Illustrator CS2 and a new tablet, which is costly. I have called Wacom support several times, and they have assured me I have the right driver. They don't even know what to tell me at this point and I am getting nervous as I have a large job I am in the middle of and I have to figure it out asap. What you said about my OS 9 possibly not having all the components is interesting. I remember the last time I did a wipe and reinstalled the Panther upgrade, it seemed to me that 9 did have some things missing from my original operating system that came with my G4. Back when I ran the tablet before the wipe, it ran fine. You may be onto something. If I am not mistaken, the original OSX package came with the OS9 install on a separate CD. Panther seemed to include 9 in with 10 and it was a combined install. Am I thinking right? Can I wipe 9 only and reinstall it without wiping 10? I am wondering if I can wipe this 9 and install the original 9 that seemed to be more complete without having to remove Panther. What do you think?

I appreciate your advice, it makes a lot of sense. I look forward to hearing from you

Sandy
