Description:
I am paging a book in Quark 3.32. I'm using an Epson Stylus Color 800 to print pages for proofing. There are some graphics (no color). When I try to print, I cannot send more than a few pages at a time to the printer, or Quark freezes (the clock hand keeps moving but nothing happens). When I force the program to quit, sometimes the computer will freeze (but not always). I can print 4 to 5 pages at a time, but then I may get a message that the computer can't open the printer. I have to go back to the chooser. And then sometimes Quark will crash. And sometimes the Finder will crash (but not only when using Quark). Sometimes I get a message that I need to reinstall the printer driver. But the printer works with other applications (Word, WordPerfect). I don't have the PostScript driver for the Epson. Any insight into this problem will be greatly appreciated!

Dear Shannon,
Quark Xpress seems to have a preference for Postscript printers over others. If possible, I'd recommend either 1) trying an application like BirmyRIP or PowerRIP to preprocess your pages before they go to the printer, or 2) if you have access to Adobe Acrobat Distiller, print your Quark document to a Postscript file, distill it with Acrobat Distiller, then print from Acrobat Reader. Both options will reduce the necessary overhead for print processing and should alleviate most of your problems.
