Description:
Found an item in the trash: retrieved items. They were a list of numbers (i.e. -302423486). When opened, received the following message for each: The document could not be opened because the application Netscape Navigator could not be found. The document cannot be translated because an unexpected problem has occurred (-2009). Netscape is on my desktop obviously, as I am using it. I suspect that it refers to an E-Mail I received that I am unable to open. I have Stuffit but keep getting the message that it is too long for Simple Text. I am using Netxcape 4.06 (from your CD-ROM). Please Help! And thanks!

The files that you found in the trash are temporary files that Netscape used and are no longer needed. These are often temporary audio files generated while surfing the web. They do not have to do with E-Mail.
If you want to view these files, you can open them as text with BBEdit...however you will probably see a lot of unreadable code. You can download BBEdit Lite from
www.shareware.com,
www.tucows.com and most mac shareware archives.
If you want to open any of the files in Netscape, take the file out of the trash and drop it onto your open browser window. (This will not work if the file is still in the trash.) If it is an audio or QuickTime file, Netscape will probably launch it with the appropriate plug-in. It should play back, and you'll have the option of saving it.
For some reason, these temporary files that Netscape generates, cannot be opened by Netscape just by double-clicking on them. I get the same message (The document could not be opened because the application Netscape Navigator could not be found.) when trying to open them on my computer (even after rebuilding desktop, etc.), however, they open when dropped on an already "open" browser window.
