I can't install my brand new iLife'06.

The install DVD seems to 'hunt' constantly. Although (eventually) it displays the iLife'06 install and 'Read Me' icons, when I double-click the install icon it (eventually) displays an error message 'Couldn't open iLife06.mpkg'.

I am running OSx 10.4.4 and my machine appears to read all other DVDs successfully. The iLife'06 install iDVD itself looks clean

Hi Michael

I would call Apple. Sounds like the disk may be bad.

Yes. Thanks.

I have just installed iWork '06 which I purchased at the same time so it seems unlikely that it is a problem with my Mac

Got a new copy from Apple. Same problem. Spinning beachball for ages, installer icon eventually appears, double-click and then (ages later) says it can't read the .mpkg file.

I've tried 'alt-dragging' the icon to my hard. I've tried using Pacifist. Nothing works.

Looking at other Mac sites/forums I think the problem is either due to the dual-layer DVD they are using to distribute iLife '06 or it's a problem with Mac OSX 10.4.4 reading .mpkg files.

Whatever I have paid GBP 50.00 for an uninstallable upgrade. My iMac is an absolutely standard PowerPC G4 so if I can't install it there will be thousands of others who can't. This is beginning to look like a major flaw in Apple's software distribution strategy.

Unless anyone can give me any ideas I'm going to get my money back

Michael

You could try making a disk image of the DVD, but if the DVD is bad it may not work. I would call Apple about this.

I would think you got two bad DVD's from them, but your other DVD's work ok.
