I have recently set up a new internet connection at my home in Japan (just moved here from Canada). And the connection is great, except when I try to access some websites (especially secured ones), it will not load. I tried using firefox, and it stil doesn't work. However, when I use the internet connection somewhere else, everything is perfectly fine. I have tried reseting my safari and even re-installing it and it still doesn't work. I read on the website that it might work if I archive and re-install the whole system, it might work. I would like to try that but I don't want all my files to be deleted ( I don't have access to an external hardrive yet). It there any other way to fix this?
Thanks in advance
Kathleen
P.S. I uses a MacBook and all the software is up to date.

Dear Kathleen,
My name is Vinko and I will attempt to assist you.
First of all, welcome to Asia; I am located in Hong Kong, and also a Canadian.
From what you've described, it does not sound like it is a Mac OS, Safari or MacBook problem.
It is more likely to be a configuration of your Mac's Network preferences with your ISP at home. Do you have details about your ISP used at home? For example, their name, web site, etc.
Do you have examples of web sites that you cannot access?
What do you mean by, "... it will not load."? Do you have a blank browser page?
I do not believe that you need to "re-install" your operating system. Where ever you read that, they must be a Windows user, as re-installing the Mac OS is usually left for solutions to major system failure. You should not even think about reinstalling the Operating System when you try to diagnose your problem.
Look forward to hearing your replies.

Thank you for using MacOSX.Com's free Mac support.

Hi Vinko,
Thanks very much for your help! I am suprise to hear support from Hong Kong. Anyhow, the problem is that whenever I try to open secured websites, such as Hotmail, the page becomes blank and the loading signal goes only half way or sometimes even less. Also have problems with any websites which I have to fill in forms or log in. And again, it just stop loading half way and remain blank. With my web banking website,
www.tdbank.com, I can open it but it takes much longer than it usually takes. And with other websites that has many objects, such as pictures or disccusion boards, the website also does not load. All these problems disappear when I use another ISP (the one at school). What's even more weird is that when I leave the Hotmail window open from school, I can access it without any problem at home. So I have no idea if it is a problem with my MAC or it is the ISP.
So ISP is call Yahoo BB by Softbank BB. I have attached a couple websites here, but most of them are in Japanese. I tried calling them couple days ago and they claim that there is nothing wrong with the internet signal or the connection. SInce I can access everything without any problem at home, it is only a safari issue. I have try setting up a new Network at home, but it is stil the same thing. It's frustrating because I know other people who uses the same ISP with a MAC and has no problem at all. So I am really glad that I found you guys!!!!

Dear Kathleen,
Thank you for your reply.
I will assume that you did not change any of the settings of Safari between using it at the school and at home.
Are you connected via wired ethernet at both the school and at home?
It is obviously that Hotmail work on your MacBook in Safari at school and I presume that the TD web site also worked on your MacBook in Safari at school and when you were in Canada. Please let me know if any of these assumptions are incorrect.
We will try to narrow down the variables and determine what is different between your access to the Internet at school and at home.
I will try to explore the issue further.

Hi Vinko,
Cant' say anymore to express my thanks......but really...thanks a lot for helping me. So I tried Firefox at home....and it still doesn't work. At school I use wireless, but at home I use wired ethernet. I tried connecting with wireless at home as well, but still the same thing. And I haven't changed a thing from home to school and vice versa.
Basically, everything works perfectly at school. And at home, only problem is when I want to browse the internet. iChat, MSN and even Skype is perfectly smooth. Weird problem.....hope there is a solution!!
Thanks again!!!

Dear Kathleen,
Thank you for your reply. You are also very welcome.
Sorry that the problem still have not been resolved. You are correct this is indeed strange.
Is the Wireless connection at school provided by the school or is it from Yahoo BB?
From my research, it seems like Jimmie who operated the BBApply that you purchased your Yahoo BB from, is very responsive and very active on the forum
Eikaiwa.net. You may want to post your problem and what you have tried in detail on there also.
If you do receive a reply, please do share with me here so both myself and others can learn from this.
In the mean time I will continue to research your problem.
