I have a Canon i455 printer, OS 10.3.9 and Photoshop CS on an iBook G4.
My problem is that, having created a JPG to print out as a borderless print, I am confronted with a red 'X' and an inability to highlight the particular JPG (although most all the others appear, save for two others which are also 300 DPI, all the non-previewed JPGs fail to appear in the window whereby one selects the file to be printed) and I am curious what to do to make it a printable JPG file.
Also, the Easy-Photo help menu fails to appear, and, of course, Canon is no help, whether on the telephone or on-line.
Would someone be so kind as to offer assistance?
cheers,
Randall

Hi Randall :-)
My name is Carolyn and I will try to assist you.
Photoshop CS, I am pea green with envy! Ok, Randall, when you take pics on your camera, does it have a menu to offer different formats? Like TIFF, JPG, etc.? If you really want quality prints, take your photos in a TIFF format. JPG format is automatically compressed and therefore decreases quality immediately. Regardless of dpi, a JPG file will never print out as good as a TIFf.
I see your have a Canon printer/iBookG4 on 10.3.9. Since Canon is being difficult about tech support may I suggest something? Get iLife from Apple Computer and use iPhoto for your photos. Edit in PShop CS, but load them from your camera taken in a TIFF format or RAW format if your camera has that function... iPhoto is part of the iLife suite, it's not expensive, and it's sure easier then dealing with camera/printer companies. You can always get help with an Apple product, but cameras and printers... I use iPhoto to upload my photos, an older PShop version for editing and an Epson (middle of the road printer). The reason I think, at least I'm pretty sure that you are getting that red X is because the software automatically knows the format and will indicate the X to let you know if the photo will print properly and with quality. iPhoto does the same thing. It shows a Yellow triangle on pics that won't print properly.
One thing you might try if you do not wish to purchase iLife for iPhoto, is to reduce the size of the JPG photo you wish to print... that might give you a better photograph printed out.
I wish I had a magic answer, but check your camera manual and see if it has information on how to take TIFF formatted photos... if you do not have the manual, I'm sure Canon has them available to print out online in PDF, viewable in Preview or Adobe Acrobat Reader for Mac.
I ran in to this same exact problem when I first got my digital camera so I understand your plight!
Regards,
Carolyn :-)

Carolyn,
Thanks for the prompt responce.
I may have incorrectly stated what I desired, which is the borderless print option via the (not-so) Easy-Photo programme, from the i455 printer.
I have figured it out somewhat, however, and yet I am still working it out. (One has to lower the JPG's resolution to 72 DPI to get it to be recognised by the E-P app, and yet the quality suffers. I know there is a way to get crisp prints, as I have seen it done, but I am still sorting it out.)
Cheers again,
Randall

Hi Randall,
Sounds like you are doing just fine! My question to you is this though. 72dpi is the requisite size for JPG for the internet, e-mail and such. Wouldn't a higher resolution be better for printing, especially a JPG????
