I am using MacOS 10.3.9 on an iBook with a built-in CD burner, and iTunes 4.9. I'm trying to burn an audio cd (all non-iTunes-Music-Store tracks) and when it finishes burning and I try to play it, the disk stutters and the rainbow-spin cursor appears. It plays small chunks of the music in between these large sections of pausing, so something got on the disc, but there are obviously problems.
On a PC CD player and on a regular audio CD player the disk is unplayable. Up until recently I was burning playable CDs just fine.
Burning at a slower speed produces the same result.
Is it more likely that I'll need to get my burner repaired/replaced, or that it's a problem with my computer or iTunes? What can I do to troubleshoot this?

Are burning them as MP3s or AACs? To make them play on most CD Players, I usually convert them to AACs.
OR
Try a differnt kind of disc. I use TDK discs on my PowerBook and have no problems...
Peace!

They're MP3 files, but I could burn this same MP3 playlist fine, onto a playable audio CD, just a few days ago and now I can't. I haven't changed any of the settings. I will try converting them to AAC, but because I didn't have any trouble with the MP3 files at first, I suspect that's not the problem.
I have always used Philips CDs, and they've worked fine until now. I'll try a different brand as you suggested, but again, they worked fine when burning this playlist in the past.
The only thing that's changed recently is that I updated to the new version of iTunes, but even so, that version was producing playable copies of this playlist at first.

Hmmm... That's odd! Sorry you're having problems. You could also try making another playlist with the same songs. Just change the Title a little. Like Mix 1 to Mix 1a...
Good Luck!
P.S. If this doesn't help, I'll put your Q back to the Open Pool...
Maybe someone else will have an Idea.

I did try changing the playlist name, and then creating a new one with the same songs and different name, to no avail. We think along the same lines!

Hello, my name is Max, and I'll be assisting you.
It seems to be a problem with BOTH your cd burner and iTunes. I would try upgrading to Tiger to fix the iTunes Problem, and then just calling Mac ResQ(macresq.com) and seeing if their techs can diagnose exactly what's wrong with the drive.
Have a nice day.
