Last week I made the switch to mac (no regrets). Got a brand new ibook with Tiger. However i'm having a problem installing my brand new copy of office 2004 students and teachers version. When I attempt to install the software I click on the 'Office Setup Assistant' option. There are 6 stages, 'Welcome, Licence Agreement, User Information' and so on. However as soon as I read and accept the 'Licence Agreement'it fails to progress on to stage 3, 'User Information'. The installation just quits. Could you please offer some advice.

Welcome on macosx.com
You don't have to use the installer (Office Setup Assistant). Just drag the Microsoft Office 2004 folder from the CD to your hard drive, in Applications.
The first time you launch either Word, Excell ..., the Office will configure itself (prepare your licensec id)

(1) wich 10.4 do you run: 10.4.1 or 10.4.2 ?
(2) did you on the same machine run the Office2004 TestDrive before ?

I'm running version 10.4.2. I bought 'Office' on ebay. The guy had a 110% record so I bought it. He had one of those bulk licences. He said he would give me another copy if I still had problems. I removed Test Drive because I went on the microsoft website and it said to remove it in order to install a full version. PS on a different subject, where abouts is the option key on the keyboard and what does it look like? (I'm new to mac)

(1) So it was not an official Mircorost CD/DVD, was it ?
(2) option key...ist the alt-key (the key with 'alt' on it
Command key is the key with the Apple logo on it
And Control key...is the key with CTRL on
So CTRL is as on Windows
Option Key is he ALT key of Windows
Command key is the AltGr of Windows

No it wasn't a boxed version. Could that be the problem? Other people purchased copies from the same bloke and have given him 'positive' feedbacks. I just want to say thankyou for your assistance.

I just found on the Web one issue on which the installer hangs at the first "Welcome License Agreement": it was due to a defective CD, Microsoft immediately replaced.
But in your case, even when you drag the Office 2004 folder to the hard drive and launch Word (for instance) you have the same error at the same place.
Is it right ?
That confuses me.
