I bought Aspyr's "Leave the Lights On" game pack from a secondhand bookstore (this was an overstock, though, never been played), which comes with 3 different games. Two of the games run fine, but I can't play "Clive Barker's Undying". I've tried opening it in both OS X and OS 9 on my eMac, and it gives me the same problem in both situations. It shows the opening company logos, and then I see a loading screen, which lists the functions that are being performed at the time. Then loading stops on "Opening Package Level Mechanics" and I get the error message "SetFilePointer Failed" and I'm forced to quit.

I've searched for a patch and I have not found any updates, nor have I found any similar complaints about the game. I have no idea what to do!

This game looks really cool and I want to play it! Can someone help me out?

Hi Craig,

How big is the Undying folder after installation? Mine is approximately 589.6 MBs.

Do you have Read & Write access to the Undying folder? You can find both the size and Permissions information using Finder's Get Info.

Where did you install the Undying? In /Applications? Because that game needs to write inside the Undying folder, I recommend not installing it in /Applications. Mac OS X doesn't like applications writing to anything inside the /Applications file structure. I typically recommend people install games in a separate folder such as /Games (at the same level as the Applications folder, not within it) or even a separate drive/partition.

Whoa, mine is only about 2.6 MB. That's a big difference!

I have Read & Write access.

I made a separate folder and moved the game folder there, but it didn't make any difference.

It seems like there was some problem installing it correctly. Should I get rid of the application and reinstall it into the new folder?

Thanks for the quick reply!

Go ahead and dump the old application and try installing into the new folder. Then make sure the newly installed folder contains more than a couple of megabytes of data A newly installed folder won't be the exact some file size as mine since mine contains some saved data. The Undying folder should contain the following files or folder (and maybe a few more)

Maps
Sounds
System
Textures
Undying
Undying OS X
Undying Read me

I haven't installed Undying in a long time. Does it give you install options such as what files you want to install? If so, I'd recommend doing a full install.
