TICKET ARCHIVE -> Problems With Upgrade 10.3.2 to 10.3.9

Multiple bungles have led me to this scenario:
Tried to upgrade to 10.3.9 from Apple.com disk image.
My G3 500 MHz will not boot from 10.3.2. I get the grey screen and the grey pinwheel. I can boot from OS 9.2 and from my Panther install disk. Running Disk Utilities shows two "disks" that cannot be erased, ejected, first aided or verified.
Ran First Aid and Permissions on my hard drive, and it seems to be working fine.
I an sorely tempted to try install and archive or wipe the whole thing, but am open to other fixes if available
