Neither Adobe Reader 9, nor the Microsoft Media Viewer work on 10.4.2 on an Imac g5. Any suggestions?

Hi Joel

The latest Acrobat Reader for Mac is version 7.0.

Microsoft Media Viewer is a PC program.
Do you mean Windows Media Player?

Sorry, Bob, I meant Adobe Reader 7.0 and the Windows Media Player.
Thanks.
Incidentally, I have the same problems with these programs with 10.4.2 on my Power Book g4

Trash the Acrobat reader plist file in user>library>preferences

also in that same folder, the Windows media Player files. there usually are two of those.

Then open Disk Utility in your Utility folder and Repair Permissions.

Try Reader and WMP after that.

Bob,
I followed your instructions about yanking the plist files and then corrected permissions. When I attempted to install Reader, I received the following message: "Adobe Reader Could Not Install Correctly. Adobe Reader was unable to install and must quit."
WMP, however, works. Many thanks for the tips. If you have any ideas about Reader, please do let me know.

Check and see if you have the following folders;

The operating system is missing one or more of the following folders:

Users/Shared
Library/Printers
Library/Application Support
Library/Internet Plug-Ins

If you don't have all of these folders, creat them and then try using Reader.

The first folder requires root access to create. The others require admin access.

Bob,

This worked perfectly.
There are three folders carrying the name "Library"; Users, System, and a third one. The User's Library had all the folders you wanted me to add, but the Library in System didn't. So that is where I put the missing folders. It worked.
Many, many thanks.
