Description:
Am trying to teach a friend how to "compute" with her Performa 550. Her Mac Performa CD doesn't seem to want to restore her system software on it. She only has Simple Text. Can I put my Mac Performa CD (631CD) on her Mac by initializing her disk and starting all over? I also can upgrade her to MacOS 7.6 with my CD.

I started her machine from her CD and used "FIND" to see what was on there. Only Quicken was there. She desperately wants Claris Works. Can't I put my CD in her Mac and just restore Claris Works (or all my system software).

Please clarify a few things for me:

1. What do you mean when you say, "Her Mac Performa CD doesn't seem to want to restore her system software on it"?
- Why was/is it necessary to restore the system software?
- Did the 550 ever work before? If yes, what do you think happened between the last time it worked and the present state of affairs?
- How did she try to restore the system software?
- Exactly what happens when she tries to do it? What screens? What tones?

2. What do you mean by, "She only has Simple Text"?

3. You say you used Find to see what was on her disk and found only Quicken.
- Is that literally true? No System folder? No Finder? Nothing else?

Please get back to me with the answers, and maybe we con sort this out.
