Hi,
I just moved from an ibook G4 1.2GHz OSX.3.8, running Quark 6.1 to a Macmini G4 1.5GHz OSX.4.3, and Quark 6.5.
Some files that works fine at ibook are now veeeery slow at mac mini. I checked that Monitor Window and it uses 100% CPU as I type a simple text. These files are not heavy yet, have few images, (but lots of style sheets and master pages).
It's weird, cause it only happens on some files and doesn't on others.
Thank in advance,
Claudia.

HI Claudia,
All I know of this issue is what I heard via a salesman at a local Apple retailer (not an official Apple company store). He was advising a designer I know not to get Tiger 10.4 or a g5 because Quark doesn't like it.
Sounds as if he may be right!
Why don't you just bite the bullet and buy InDesign? Ditch Quark as many designers are doing now! InDesign makes more accurate PDFs which everyone wants now. Here are some recent comments from another designer who just made the move to InDesign and why she prefers it to Quark:
I get much better pdf files which many printers don't even want the original file they just want a pdf file.

I don't have any font issues. Although this might be more because I moved to OS10 at the same time I started using InDesign.

There is photoshop capabilities available with InDesign. I use clipping path, feathering and drop shadow alot.

I like the preflighting package that is built in also.

My first designer buddy bought a used dual processor 500mHz g4 tower ($500 with huge monitor) and is loving it with Quark and everything.

Thanks for your reply (and sorry for my lousy english...).
I'd like to live Quark behind and move on, but many publishing houses I work with prefer to get open file, and they haven't move on yet, so.... I'll have to stay here a little longer.
I removed those extensions and it seem to have resolved the problem. Ten thousand thanks!
Well now, If it's not too much to ask, I'd like to understand (in general terms) what have I done, what those extensions do.
Bye,
SmilingClaudia.
