I have a 44 page document created in Quark that I have exported to a PDF. The first time I sent it to the client it was fine. They sent me changes, I made them in Quark and then exported again to a PDF for their review.
Now my PDF has jagged edges on three fonts (2 Frutiger, and Garamond bold). Weird! They're fine in Quark, but the client will be posting the document online, so it needs to be clear as a PDF.
Need to get to them this morning. Any help is appreciated!
Nancy
Shutting down and restarting in safe mode seemed to help with two of the fonts, but one is still jagged, so whatever help you can offer is appreciated. I replaced the one font for the time being to get the job out yesterday.
Thanks!
First, repair permissions on your computer; fixes most small issues: apps/utilities/disk utility/repair permissions
What font management app do you use? If you use FontBook ditch it now and get the free FontExplorer (now works in 10.5.2):
http://www.linotype.com/fontexplorer
Next, use Tools/Clean System Fonts and allow it to remove all but the required system fonts in system/fonts folder.
After that, move all fonts to a font folder in your hard drive called MY FONTS or whatever you like to name it, and Add Fonts in FE.
What this does is ensures your fonts load correctly; sounds like you have some corrupted fonts in your document or you're exporting incorrectly. Here's your optimal export type; best for print and proofing:
PDF/X-1a.
Have you ever considered InDesign? It exports natively to this format perfectly every time.
Let me know if these steps help you.
Thanks! I haven't had time to install FontExplorer yet, but will let you know when I do. Thanks again!!
