I just upgraded to TIger. Now my Quark 6.5 crashes when hidden even for a second. Since my publishing needs require going back and forth between quark and other files (word, acrobat, photoshop), and every time I click on another application that automatically hides and crashes 6.5, I'm finding it impossible to use.
Talked to Quark and since it is a problem with upgrading my Mac system they say they can't help. Mac says it isn't responsible for compatibility. Help! I'm not sure how to get rid of my upgrade and go back to previous Mac version, but may need to -- especially as I see online that this is a common problem, but haven't seen a good fix.
Howdy!
To be honest I have a few ideas but not necessarily the exact answer. If you'd like to have me reopen this question please let me know.
My thoughts:
--Which font program are you using? Do you have autoactivation of fonts turned on? Might try Quark without autoactivation. I use Linotype.com/FontExplorer with great effect, though it's autoactivation for Illustrator sometimes crashes that app.
--Have you repaired permissions in a while? Apps/Utilities/Disk Utility/Repair Permissions. Do this every couple of weeks. Restart and see if problem persists.
I'll keep searching for an answer. Let me know some more info when you get a chance; we'll take it from there.
(found a good resource here:
http://xlr8yourmac.com/OSX/10.4.7_reports.html) do a search for "Quark". Says something about cleaning your font caches with Font Finegler app.
