when I go to the account bar on the right side of the screen (the pull down one that lets you choose between banking, assets/debits, etc.) the dang thing freezes.

There are several things you can do to narrow down and fix the freezeing with Quicken.
Rebuild your desktop.
Check your hard disk with Disk First Aid to ensure there are no problems.
Check for an Extensions, Control Panel, or Font conflict.
Scan for Viruses.
Give the Quicken application more memory.
