DESCRIPTION:
I am unable to access my financial account or download from my mutual fund company(T. Rowe Price) when going online thru Quicken. But when I go to T.Rowe Price directly thru America Online v4.0 using Microsoft Internet Explorer v.4 with 128 bit encryption, I can access my mutual fund account without any problem.
When using Quicken to access my account, T. Rowe Price asks me to test my browser and encryption in order to assure security.
When I do this, T. Rowe Price says that my "browser is configured for an undetermined operating system" and that I am "currently using Internet Explorer v.3.02 with 40 bit encryption".
I have gone thru the set up configuration for an internet connection within Quicken, which gave me a choice of AOL v.4.0 or Microsoft Internet Explorer v.4.0 as my browser. I have tried both systems to access my account thru Quicken, but the T.Rowe Price encryption test still thinks I'm using IE v.3.02 configured with an undetermined operating system, with 40 bit encryption.
I have already upgraded my AOL microsoft IE to 128 bit encryption. Also my Microsoft IE on my desktop has also been upgraded to v.4.0.
Can you tell me what the problem is?
Thank You, Mark
Hiya Mark!
Thank you for using No Wonder Technical Support.
Intuit provides you with a link that you can test your browser to make sure
that 128-bit encryption has been enabled. Point your web browser to:
http://www.intuit.com/support/browsertest
to make sure that it passes the test.
2 more things you should know about
:
(1) You must use internet explorer with quicken. AOL's browser will not work.
(2) I suspect that when you installed version 4.0 of Internet Explorer, you
may have disable 128-bit encryption. Unless you specifically request the
128-bit encryption version of Internet Explorer, you are given the default
40-bit encrytpion. Without 128-bit encryption, you will get the error message
which you just described.
I would strongly suggest that you point your web browser to the following
web site and follow the directions to upgrade your version of Internet
Explorer to the 128-bit encryption version:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/download/128bit.htm
This web page will take some information from you to verify that you live in the
United States, and then will show you how to download a small patch (takes
less than 3 minutes to download) and install it to upgrade your browser.
You will have to reboot your computer once you have installed the patch.
