Problem: Software
Computer Type: Quicken
Model: 7500/100
RAM: 64meg
RAM Enhancer: Virtual Memory
OS Version: Not related

Description:
OS 8.5.1--when I try to access Financial Fitness, Net Worth Analysis in particular in Quicken 98 my computer freezes. I had Quicken 7 and it worked fine. I've tried almost anything to solve this probolem. Rebuilding desktop, Zap, and even Conflcit Catcher froze on me when trying to solve the problem. Reinstalled 8.5, reinstalled Quicken, even copied a Quicken 98 on my Zip from a friend's iMac where it worked fine and worked fine on the friend's iMac off the Zip, but when trying to open Financial Fitness--Net Worth Analsis even that Zip froze. I have discovered by turning off extensions that one of the QuickTime extension will not freeze my computer when trying to open Financial Fitness, but nothing happens. Can you help? Appreviate this service. Thank you.

Hi welcome to Nowonder

I don't know if this will help but it is sure worth a try. Found it at the http://www.macfixit.com site. Extension causes crash? N. Fore claims that Quicken Deluxe 98 installed a
NetManage WinSock Lib extension which was the cause of an "Illegal instruction error" startup crash. Update: Christopher Suley writes: "I doubt NetManage WinSock Lib could cause a crash, since it is just a standard CFM shared library. I wrote that library for NetManage, so I should know. As with any CFM,
it doesn't need to be in the Extensions folder if only one app is using it;
they could put it in their Quicken 98 folder if they didn't want to clutter
their System Folder."

You may want to read up on it at Macfixit there is an update also. In there search mode type in Quicken 98. best regards sharona@nowonder
