I am using an imac, with mac os x 10.3.9

Until recently I have been using Quicktime 6.5.2 with no problems.

I tried to update the program by installing Quicktime 7. The program never opened, so i have not been able to use QT 7.

I recently tried to install QT 6.5.2 again, but the Installer would not do it - it said the i have more recent versions of QT on my computer,

So I deleted QT 7, and tried reinstalling QT6.5.2. It still said that i have got more recent versions on my mac.

Then I tried the 6.5.2 reinstaller, which was meant to uninstall QT7 and reinstall QT 6.5.2

This time it said that I didn't have the appropriate version of QT to complete the installation.

Bascially, Installtion programs say I have QT 7, and Reinstall programs say I don't have QT 7.

How can i get out of this catch 22 situation.

NB, i am not 100% sure, but I believe that i copied the program QT 7 straight from one mac to another - and then tried opening it. could this be where the problem lies?

sincerely,

Tarik

Go to your Library folder (not in the Users folders but in the main hard drive directory. You'll find a Receipts folder in there; the receipts in that folder tells your system what you've already installed. Remove the receipts for Quicktime packages. Then download the Quicktime 7 installer from Apple's downloads site and run it. It will install Quicktime 7 and also the latest iTunes (you can always check if its the latest version of iTunes by a "Get info" or command-I). I think that should fix your problem. I'm assuming you're not using Quicktime 7 Pro which is a paid upgrade.

Hope that helps and please let us know what happens. Thanks.
