I have a really basic question concerning quicktime which I should know the answer to, and am assuming that it is a yes..but wanted some confirmation. Does the Apple DVD Player support Dolby Digital Playback?
If I were to hook up a 5.1 surround sound system to my laptop, would I be able to experience movies with that technology?

Hi, Lenny,
The basic answer to your question is yes, if your powerbook has Digital Out (or S/PDIF connection.)
The little more long-winded answer can be found in a couple of the articles I listed below. The second article has some very useful information about the different audio from Quicktime and Apple's DVD Player.

Please let me know if this has helped any or not. If not, please let me know which Powerbook model you have and I'll do some more digging.

Leigh
