I have downloaded several films (QuickTime avi format) and when I start them up I get a dialogue box stating that QuickTime needs certain components before the film will run. On each occasion I could see the film but had no sound!?
I downloaded several add on software such as DivX Player and Xvid codec but still no sound.
All other QuickTime movies I have downloaded has worked fine. What am I missing? I have G5 with all Apple's latest software running OS 10.4.11.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Kevin

You may need Perian, a free download that gives Quicktime more file types ... but you may just need to set your MIME types in Quicktime. Be sure you've checked AVI.

There were some QuickTime problems a while back, and fixes were released right away. You might go to http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
and see if you really are up to date, or reapply your latest QT fix.

Hope this helps.

There was also an issue with Flash - DON'T check the box in the QuickTime panel that asks if you want QT to handle flash.

Thank-you very much for your advice. I downloaded both perian and the quicktime fix and they worked!

Thanks again!
