hello folks,
I am stumped by this ---
still running osx-10.3 and was trying out some quicktime sites like madonna's (just a for instance, no judgements on musical taste, ok?
)
anyway, from the madonna site, which is linked to quicktime player, and other sites, all i get is the quicktime logos and a bar below it along with a message saying negotiating. This goes on forever and the video never starts.
Also trying to get the stream from the polictical site, www1.theyoungturks.com, (http://easylink.playstream.com/seawm1/youngturks.wvx) ... I updated the windows player plug in, actually the "Flip4Mac-WMV Player", but i cant get this stream to come up.
I updated safari and quicktime then restarted but still no luck.
any ideas would be appreciated.
thanks. Ray

As you are having problems with internet plug-ins, try this tip:
Quit Safari, then go to your home folder/Library/Preferences folder, and delete the file named com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist
Relaunch Safari, and try those links again.
You could also try a different web browser, such as FireFox, or Camino

Hi Dale
thanks for the speedy response.
I tried firefox but that didn't work either. Neither did deleting the preference plist file.
Very irritating since apple has the Madonna site on their QuickTime play list...

This is nothing to blame on Apple, as those sites both work well for me....
You may have some other preference that is not helping you.
Do you have any trouble viewing Movie trailers at the Apple/Quicktime link?
Have you tried creating a new user, and log in as that user, and try your links then?

the movie trailers do work ... I just saw the Superman one. And the video for Kate Bush worked as well ... there is something that is not allow me to use other quicktime sites and its just baffling.
I'm suppose i could try and add another user to my computer but I'm not sure if i want to go that route ... that doesnt seem to be the part thats broke.
thanks for your input though.

ok, Dale ...
I decided to fiddle around a littel more and I changed the connection speed by clicking on the last button on the left hand part of the frame in the madonna screen.
After doing that I was able to see the video ...
going back to quicktime player i clicked on the video link for Lee Ryan. It did not work again ... but changed the connection speed and then the video started.
Really, dont you think these videos should just start up automaticlly?
I am still having no luck with the Flip4Mac-wmv viewer however.
anybody with input on the Flip4Mac-wmv viewer would be a big help.
thanks
Ray

Yes, the videos generally start auto-magically. As I said, the links you mentioned work well for me. I have an older iMac G3, running OS X 10.4.4 You might try downgrading back to quickTime 6.5 There is a link in Apple's downloads to provide this as a possibility. You should try the links with a different user to check for any improvement (there might be no help, but good to try.)
You should also try simply restarting your Mac, and first thing try those links for any change with a simple reboot....
