QT does not play audio with saved avi files or in new files downloaded. the audio does work if i am streaming video from the internet.
please help. even old files that once played with sound now do not.
i have a MacBook with OS X v10.4.11 and am running quicktime version 7.5

I installed PERIAN as advised and all is well. It was so easy. thank you for the help. Do you know why this problem began in the first place?

QuickTime Player doesn't come with built-in support for some video types. Perian adds that functionality. VLC replaces it entirely with its proprietary codecs.
