Whenever I try to run quicktime, I get the following error message: "Quicktime failed to initialize. Error #63443. Please make sure quicktime is properly installed on this computer." I have already tried to reinstall quicktime, but the installation does not finish. Please help, some educational software I use depends on quicktime, and I cannot pass my math class unless I get it working again.
Hello Joshua,
Having probs with QuickTime... in Mac OS 9 and you are a student.
Can you tell me which version of QuickTime you have installed?
And how much memory does your Mac have? That information in OS 9 can be bound in the Apple Menu Items>Memory. Also what size is your Macs drive?
First try dragging the QuickTime Preference file to the Trash. It can be found by following this path:
MacintoshHD>System Folder>Preferences
The QuickTime Preference file is in there. Drag it to the Trash, empty the Trash, and see if QuickTime will launch for you. If that doesn't do the trick, try the following suggestions.
If you are running an older version of QuickTime, quite possibly downloading and installing this update could solve the problem: This updates QT 6.0, 6.1, and 6.2.

If you are running QT 5.0, you might try dragging the QTime application you have to the Trash, downloading and installing a fresh file. From here:

Let me know if anything helped!

I actually am not a mac user, I am using windwos xp home edition. I currently have quicktime 7 installed.
Hi Joshua,
I'm sorry, but when you said you were using Mac OS 9, I thought you were on a Mac.
So, even though this support site is for Macs I can help
with Windows XP :-) for Windows, I'd toss the QuickTime software and download a new file from Apple. Here is the
url:

I am aware you said that you tried reinstalling, but it's really the only suggestion I can think of.
If this problem just started suddenly and you've been able to launch QT and use it successfully, you might try
System Restore. Start>Accessories>System Restore. Sometimes using this utility can restore Win XP to a time when you were able to use QuickTime without any problems.
Also, go to this link and check out the QuickTime for Windows trouble shooting tips.
