I was having a problem with Quicktime 7.0.3 wher it wouldn't properly plug in to Safari or Internet Explorer. After a while, this minor inconvenience became too irritating to let continue.

I have downloaded the software to re-install Quicktime, however EVERY time I try to install it, it was telling me that a newer version of Quick time was already installed. Then, I really screwed up by removing the Quick time application and a few files. Now, I have no Quick time whatsoever and I STILL can't reinstall for the same reason.

I'm lost. Need help ASAP. Thanks

One quick way to get QT back is to install the latest version of iTunes (even if you have it) by getting the standalone installer from Apple's downloads page. By default, the iTunes installer also installs QT; there is a separate iTunes installer which won't install QT, so choose the right one.

Otherwise, you can try the extensive discussions on this very topic at macintouch.com and macfixit.com. There are other ways to get QT up and running, but it's a long list...

HTH and please let us know what happens.

I tried to redownload it, but ran into Apple's great brick wall. I can't install iTunes at all according to the download. I bet showing up at their office with a chainsaw would get this resolved quickly

Since that option won't work, I'll try the other forums

Well, I did find part of the answer.

I was able to restore Quicktime with a reinstaller file to 7.0.1 located at apples web site. This, however, didn't solve my web browser plug in problem. The Web browser Safari still will not view Quick time movies. What a freaking pain.

I'm happy to report that I have at least isolated the problem to a few files. QuickTime Plugin.webplugin and QuickTime Plugin.plugin in the Library under Internet Plugins is the culprit.

Unfortunatly there seems to be no way to fix them. In Mac OS 10.3.9, QuickTime Plugin.webplugin appears as a folder and is completly disfunctional. Suggestions on most sites I've read suggest removing them completely (either one or the other), but that leaves the browser clueless as to Quicktime's existence in every scenario.

Can't win. Any suggestions on where to go from here?
