I just need a Question Answered on Qwest DSL Service for a friend in Prescott AZ. I spent considerable time & L.D. Phone calls getting my friend to give-up on his XP PC & go with Mac. He finally did so with a iMac plus Tiger. He wants DSL & Qwest has a $24.99 1 year offer without having to upgrade his residential service. But the Qwest 1-800--CSRs keep telling him that MSN won't work with Mac, or it will cost extra, or why would we care about MSN anyway, Just want DSL service to existing Qwest PhoneLine & not pay an arm & a Leg for it.
I have the $15.00 monthly 796kbs from Verizon and was no problems, and had no If-s, And-s or but-s activating to my Panther 10.3.9 eMac. Any Comments or Experiences with Qwest DSL & Mac OS X would be appreciated. Thanks jellison

Hi Jelklison

Won't be a problem, regardless of what Quest tells you. It's just a DSL service. Will work fine on the Mac.

jellison -- I did some Web searching and learned more on Qwest or many DSL servers. I now know why Qwest CSRs tell my friend that his OS X won't Work for Qwest DSL. Its the Evil Empire Again, Qwest's bargain DSL for 1 year only has MSN Premium for the so-called ISP, ( I even came across that deal with Qwest & MS )--then I read about MS decision to drop all Mac software from MSN Premium service last year, which explains all this unessesary Run-around.
Actually, it will work according to Qwest--But will cost more yet, as they find another ISP for his Qwest DSL that has Mac OS Software. I looked around at ISPs that Qwest authorises, but their price plus Qwest fees are gonna go over like a Lead Ballon for my friend in N-Arizona.

So have I actually over-complicated this DSL + ISP situation. [ bobw ]- replied that it doesn't matter. I picked-up on some articals that indicated that a Mac can access these DSL line by manual settings in the Network Pane, via the DSL Modem ( DHCP ) settings. And my friend could use the Qwest Software Disc with MSN on it, as a Frisbee outside. --is this True
He also still has His XP PC to access MSN-Qwest DSL if its a Has-too situation. I thought if my friend can acess without anything else, He can go get a free Email service from Yahoo or somewhere for his Email
I have Verizon DSL 796kbs for $15.00 monthly, but I noticed that I had to choose Yahoo as My service--so I'm thinking thats my so-called DSL ISP for Verizon DSL --Yahoo lists as Mac OK
So I'm just looking for confirmation, that the Mac (iMac Tiger ) wil access the Qwest DSL service from Network settings pane, and no so-called alternate ISP Needed---cause its gonna be My L.D. phone bill thats Penalized for the walk-thru over Phone till we get iChat working. Thanks veryMuch

It's true, you can set a Mac up for the DSL in the Network PreferencePane. You would just use PPPoE to connect, a setting in the Mac.You don't need to use the ISP's software.

Some ISPs tell people it won't work on a Mac because their software won't work on a Mac, but they don't know Macs.

jellison: Everything went more than smoothly for My friend with the New iMac down in Arizona. In Fact-- the Mac virtually found the Qwest internet DSL Service automatically. By having Him click to his ethernet setting in the Network Pane. Truely Amazing; The Apple always reminds me Weekly, on just how superior it is over Windows. Thanks Alot jellison Oregon
