Hello,
I have recently upgraded a G4 power mac to OS 10.3 and added a 256 memory card to make it 512. I am still running Quark 5 (a classic appliation) in OS 10.3. I have an issue with the redraw on the page. It is slower than the OS9 Operating system. I wondered if this was a problem with quark or a problem with the operating system. I have downloaded an extension that is supposed to overcome this but it doesn`t help.
Please can you help me. Thankyou

Normally when I use Quark, in any system, redraw is bad with the rulers/rules on. Is this the same with you?

You can hit F7 twice to force the screen to redraw.

Also look at your Quark 5 preferences for redraw and have it not redraw items off screen to save memory. In fact, you might try allocating more memory to the program in Classic.

Let me know if any of this helps.

Hello Nat,
Thank you for your reply. pressing F7 does force the screen to redraw and assigning more memory to the programme has made little difference.
The redraw issue is particularly a problem when clients are proofing on screen. Quark 5 is giving macs a bad name it is very tedious to work with.

Looks like there is no solution. It makes me angry because we spend hundreds of pounds for substandard products. I know that upgrading to 6 will solve the issue but I am being held back by some of my printers who have no plans to upgrade in the near future. This sucks!!

Found a site from 2002 that mentions a cool extension you might try (I think I used it and it seemed to work for screen redraw issues):

http://computeruser.com/articles/dai...2,1202,02.html

Look for XTension Classic Draw XT in this article, then download it here for free: http://downloadsnew.pcpro.co.uk/MacU.../cdxt-mac.html

Let me know if this extension doesn't work or isn't at this location.

After things settle down I highly recommend going to InDesign CS (not 2, though, just yet). It's been a godsend and I haven't used Quark since early 2004.
