Hi, I've been looking around on the internet about how to play DVDs on my I-book from different regions (I travel a lot). I read somewhere that some programs to play dvds from different regions are illegal. I found Region-X. Is this program illegal? And how does anyone know that you have it on your computer?
Jae.
Hi and welcome to macosx.com
yes, theoritically, following the WarnerBors 1st amendment and the UniversalPicture bible (chapter 'We know what's good for our shareholders'), you can just buy a DVD to play in the region where you buy.
And if you move, if you crush the DVD, you have to pay again.
You cannot install any program which allows you to reduce major profits, or if you do it, you have to call them and explain how devil you was and how sheep you promise to become...
You cannot make a copy of your DVD in case of your child will destroy it
You cannot clean region of your DVD drive, nor use any program (if any) which get rid of regions locks.
In some countries, like here in France or Belgium, you cannot copy AND you have also to pay a tax on hard drive and recordable CD-R or DVD-R in case of, one time, you decided to make a backup copy of the family movie you spend the whole night to finalise in iMovie.
And of course, you never find in any place on the Web where some fools (
www.ripdifferent.com) will explain that MacTheRipper is able to rip DVDs to get rid of regions and that VLC (
www.videolan.org) is a player which can, on the contrary to Apple player, play DVDs from any region.
I can answer in peace. I know you never drove over the speed limit on highways so, you never accept to read this response which never reaches you
