I tried to upgrade from 10.3.9 to 10.4 but my mac would not start up without crashing afterwards... so I tried to reinstall 10.3.9. I choose to archive and install and now am having trouble with printer installation, safari, ical, etc. I have an exact copy of my 10.3.9 hard drive saved to an external drive that I made using retrospect express before installing Tiger. Using drag and drop I copied iCal from the archived drive and now it works ok. I did the same thing with safari and it work now also. I tried to install printer drivers from the disk but the installer doesn't seem to work and I am afraid I don't know where it is located or what to drag to fix it. I need to know if I should reinstall 10.3 again and choose the reformat option. If I do I'm not sure how to get my cloned copy back to my start up disk from the external drive. If I reinstall 10.3 should I run software update and install all updates before trying to use my cloned copy to reinstall my old home folder etc. Please help if you can. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!
I think your problem is that you did archive and install of panther on top of tiger, that is not recommendable.
I think you have two options, either do format and install of panther or
then you could use utility like superduper (
http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDup...scription.html )
to clone the exact image of your ext. drive back to your startup drive. Just start up from your ext.drive load superduper and let it do the work, then you should get back to the point where you started before installing tiger.
Then you can if you want try to install tiger again, but before think if there is anything that might have caused tiger not to install properly: Have you working dvd of tiger install dvd, is the disk clean, does your mac have specs for it, something else... I think you can find some info from here:
http://www.apple.com/support/tiger/install/
Good luck!

That sounds very good. The only thing I would be concerned about is that on my external hard drive I have the exact clone of my start up disk (but i don't think I can start from it), and a copy of the start up drive before I went to panther (mac os 10.2 which I can start from) and a mac os 9 system as well. Would SuperDuper allow me to start from 10.2 and still copy the panther clone copy to my original imac start up? Thanks for all you advice.
