Hi,
My girlfriend recently deleted ichat AV 2.0 from her iMac and I have been attempting to reinstall it using Pacifist. Unfortunately I am unable to locate the file and am wondering if someone here might know where it is located on the the iMac OSX install or software restore CD's?
Thanks

Hi Paul
Open Pacifist
Put the first 10.2 disc in
Choose Open Apple Install Packages
When it loads all the Packages, open 'Contents of Essential.pkg
Open the Application folder
You'll see iChat.app
Click on it to highlight
Click the 'Extract to icon at top of window and extract to your desktop

Hi Bob,
Went to do what you instructed but noticed unfortunately that her OSX install disk is version 10.1.2 CD version 1.0. What do I do now?

iChat was a free download from Apple I believe for that version of the System.
I've uploaded iChat 2.0. You can download it here and see if it works;

It's weird, when stuffit expander unstuffs it, it never completes the action (at least according to the progress bar). It puts an icon on my desktp but it doesn't appear to completely unstuff it. It never completes the task and when I try to open it on the desktop it makes all the familiar actions but nothing ever loads.

Is 218kb the proper file size of the download? It seems smallas opposed to the 5.5mb for ichat 2.1

The Stuffed file is 220 KB.
The uncompressed file should be 828 KB
iChat 2.1 requires 10.3 or newer.
Not sure if iChat even worked with the 10.x systems.

OK well there in lies the problem. the uncompressed file I wind up with is only 630 kb so something is definitely missing. I will try again this evening. iChat 2.0 worked before and I will get it to work again ... if it kills me lol

I gave in and downloaded AIM. Thanks for your help. If there's anything you can think of, please let me know. Thanks

Are you sure your girlfriend is running OS X 10.1.2?
And actually had iChat working on this system?
iChat Beta required OS X 10.2.5 or above.

No, She's updated the system to 10.3.9 Her original disks are 10.1.2. The only disks we have with 10.3.9 are from my ibook and Powerbook G4 laptops. Can i use those disks?

Yes, you can use Pacifist on the 10.3 disc to extract iChat and use.
