How do I remotely view my father's Mac from my Mac using Tiger and Chicken of the VNC? I have my father's external and internal ip addresses, but I am still unable to connect.

Hi Jack

You Father will have to be runnign a VNC server like OSXvnc;

http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/16699

If you Father is running Tiger, he has to set you up with a user account. Then go to the Sharing PreferencePane, turn on Apple Remote Desktop, click Access Privileges, and give you permissions. If you're going to connect that wya, your Father will have to forward port
3283 on his router to his internal IP.

Using OSXvnc, he has to forward port 5900.

Bob,

Thank you for the connection tip. I am getting closer all the time to resolving this issue. By the way, if my father wants to connect to my computer, I guess I would use the same ports or not? Also, I have a work associate whom works on a PC. She uses XP professional. How would I connect with her and vice-versa?

I apologize for the lame questions, I am new to this remote viewing and I just want to get it right. Do you have thorough step-by-step instructions for idiots you could forward to me on how to do these setups?

Jack

Any machine behond a router needs to have the port forwarded to the machine that will be connected to.

Yes, if your Father wants to connect to your machine and you're using a router or firewall, you need to forward the port to your machine's internal IP.

For the PC, use UltraVNC;

http://www.windowstracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/34163

Setup instructions should be in the help menus.

Basically, setup a user for yourself on the other machines, then use VNC to log on and observe or control the other machine.

I don't know of any tutorials for using VNC.

Bob,

I take it back, my father is operating on Panther 10.3.6. Is there any difference?
