I have two laptops on a home network, ibook and albook, linksys wireless router, both are running 10.4.3. Until updating both to Tiger I was able to control the iBook via Apple Remote Desktop from the albook. I've since downloaded Chicken of the VNC (enabling the vnc option in the iBook's sharing pane) and am unable to connec to the iBook via that either. In ARD, it allows me to add the computer, but it shows it as unavailable. Chicken gives me a can't connect error.
When I take my albook to the office, I'm able to ARD my desktop G5 (also running 10.4.3) and Chicken to it. It seems like maybe its something with the settings on my router? I do have MAC address filtering enabled and both laptops addresses are entered. One other thing, I am able to network browse and mount the iBook no problem...
Thoughts?

First thing I would check is that the Firewall Pref Pane has the ARD and VNC ports open on the machine that you can't connect to.

Thank you for your answer, the firewall seems to by default get checked, but is says start, so I started it and then stopped it, but the firewall service seems to be off? When I hover over ARD, it tells me its using port 3268 - but I don't see a way to change the port #, what should it be?

With ARD 2.2 and VNC you also have to have port 5900 open.
You would add it as a new port by clicking the new button. Then choose VNC. That will open all the ports necessary for VNC 5900-5902

Okay, I've done that (on both machines), rebooted both, and still can't remote desktop or vnc in to the iBook. I didn't mention that I'm using ARD 1.2 Admin. The desktop machine I'm able to view is also not updated to ard 2.2 and my aluminum can connect to that still. The only thing that seems to be different is the network...work network vs. home linksys wireless router. I've looked for a firmware update for it, but then found many cases of people updating their linksys firmware only to have it not function at all anymore. I've checked all through the settings on the router and looked for the port forwarding but don't see anything that says that specifically. I reset to factory defaults and started over, but still can't get the aluminum to see the ibook.

Ok well then it may be something in your router.
Does it have a built in firewall?
If so that would be something you need to look at.
You'd need to make sure that the ports on the router's firewall are open as well.
Another thing to try.
Take an ethernet cable and plug directly into the other machine. that will rule out that it's the computer's firewall.

Thanks for your help, I just bit the bullet tho and upgraded to 2.2 admin - that fixed my issue. Others had recommended I just upgrade but I was baffled by why it had suddenly stopped working. Whatever, 2.2 works for me now. Thanks again.
