Hello

I would like to be able to run a series of Apple Scripts remotley on a Mac Mini (PPC). We have a series of Plasma Screens on each floor of our building and it's the Mac Mini that controls them by playing a looping Keynote file that contains notices and other coold stuff.

We have a new receptinist that is not too flash with the computers so we need a way that we can eaisly quite Keybnote so she can then replace the Keynote file then open the new version and then play it.

It would be best if we could excute these via a Web browser so that way we can alter the interface she see's. We need her to be able to do this without letting her loose in the server room.

I'm getting increasling better with apple scripts and can do that side of it I just want a way to be able to get them to run on the Mac Mini remotley.

Thanks

Hi!

You could do this in a web browser... - I guess I'd make a web form with a submit button that calls a CGI. That CGI would run your applescript using the "do script" command. You could even have the web form upload the keynote to the computer, then quit and relaunch Keynote... It would take some time to put together, but certainly feasable.

Another option would be to use SSH (in Terminal if you know command line) to quit keynote and move files around. Using the command line "open" command, you can run your applescript as well.

Of course, there's always VNC to remote-control a computer.

I took a different approach in my office where I have a similar situation. I use the Pictures screen saver to show my images. The systems will download an image from a local web server three times a day. I simply update the text on my image on my web server and let the kiosks download it for display. Of course, that assumes only 1 or 2 unique messages on each station.. The rest are static images, but you could modify those scripts if you know PERL or shell scripting. I'd be happy to share if you'd like.

I hope one of those solutions will work for you. Good Luck - it sounds like a fun project.

Sorry i din't reply

I have got a web scripting teacher here to make a PHP Script that is supose to make an application run when the button is clicked. I haven't tried it yet it may not work but we'll modify it if it doesn't. I'll let you know when we get something working.
