Description:
How could I reset my modem without asking for the iMac to shut-down ?
It happened to me to surf on the web then to decide to send a fax with FAXstf Pro 5.0. The matter is that if I decide to surf on the web again (when my fax has been sent and the fax software has been turned off) an error dialog box appears telling me that I should verify my modem settings or the ARA configuration.
When they were serial ports it was easy to solve such problems by changing the port selection, for example, if I do remember well. But I don't know what could be the equivalent action for an internal modem.
I even tried to send commands to the modem with Zterm : the modem said "OK" and "OK" again when asked him if "AT&F" and, after, if "ATZ" ?
But the modem didn't wan't to reset. And I had to shut down (a simple restart has no effect on it) and to start again to be abble to visit the web.
Thank you for your help.

All I can suggest is to use GlobalFax instead of FaxSTF. I use GlobalFax with my Mac's modem and it works well for Internet connections and faxes. Apple decided to save some money by licensing FaxSTF for use with their modems, rather than adapting the great Apple Fax program they wrote (maybe the people working on it in Paris were laid off?) but FaxSTF is a really bad piece of software. If you can't reset the modem with AT&F or ATZ, then that's all the software resetting you can do. The money for GlobalFax is well spent.
