Recently erase installed Tiger over OX 10.1, Periodically, the restart screen appears when working in ical, itunes , dashboard, and even when system is idle.
Had Kernal panic happen before fresh installation, was hoping new installation would solve the problem.
I have run Tech ToolPro ver 4, system passed. Ram, surface scan, volumes all passed no indication of failure.
What can I do?

Hello, my name is Carolyn and I will try to assit you.
Thanks for posting your System Profile as that helps us help you.
Ok.. check out this link for starters:
http://www.macmaps.com/kernelpanic.html Tons of info there on Kernel Panics. Why you are seeing the boot screen when using iTunes etc., I'm not sure but start with reading the information in that link and see if anything helps. It's interesting that you wiped the hard drive and installed Tiger and it still happens. My first gut reaction is the mother or logic board. Let's hope that isn't the case. How long have you had your Mac????
Regards,
Carolyn :-)

HI Carolyn
My Name is Tami, thanks for your quick response, I will check out the site you provided.
I would hate to think its the motherboard. Any way to diagnose it?
I've had this computer for 3yrs, no problems (until now)...

HI Tami,
Have you ran Disk Utility lately? You need the system disk that came with your Mac OR any disk that you have used to upgrade with like Tiger. Shut down your Mac, then reboot holding down the C key and at the same time push the system disk in the slot/tray so your Mac will boot from the CD, not your internal disk. You can let go of the C key when you see the Apple logo appear on the Desktop. An Installer pane will appear but go to:
Installer>Quit in the Menu. Now, you should see the word Utility in the Menu. Click that then click Disk Utility. The DU on the CD will open. First, run Repair Permissions. Then after that, click the MacintoshHD in the panel on the left and then click Verify. That should give you the info we need to see if there are errors on the disk. If errors are reported, click:
Repair. Hopefully DU can do the job. Let me know how it goes...

Hi Carolyn,
I've tried the disk utility and everything passed, so far I have yet to have another restart screen since early weds, could this have been fixed or have I been just lucky?
Regards
Tami

Gosh, you mean my magic wand finally worked? LOL But let's make certain your internal disk is REALLY ok. Launch Disk Utility. Select where it says:
MacintoshHD in the panel on the left and run Repair Permissions. You don't have to use your system CD to do this. Now, after it finishes, click the manufacturer's name just above where it says MacintoshHD in the same panel. Now, look down at the bottom of the DU window and where it says: S.M.A.R.T. Status.... does it say: Verified? If it does, Disk Utility is reporting that your disk is OK.
One other thing. Check your Startup Items. Open Sys Prefs>Accounts.
Click the Login Items button. Are there items listed there that you have set up to launch after Start Up? If so, you might want to disable them for the time being. Just let your drive start up normally for several days and then if you want certain apps to launch on boot, add them back in.
You might try Onyx. It's a FREE maintenace and cleaning utility here:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...ties/onyx.html Onyx is a great disk cleaning utility. I use it once a week without fail.
One other suggestion is to purchase DiskWarrior available at:
http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/ Disk Warrior is what Apple uses at their stores! And I don't suggest any type of computer software that I don't use myself.
Post back if you need further assistance and thanks for choosing Macosx.com.

Hi Carolyn,
I've just completed the repair permissions and the s.m.a.r.t. status does say verified. Hopefully what ever was, has stopped. I will run the computer for the next few days and see if I get any more Restarts,
I downloaded Onyx and no problems were reported.
Thanks for your tips and suggestions, it's really nice to get straight forward solutions, what a cool website!! I really appreciate your help.
Thanks again
Best Regards
Tami
