Description:
I was wondering if I could do the following with a Retrospect script.

I would like have a script backup the computers on the network Monday, Tues, Wed, Thurs, and Friday. I will put in a new tape each day so I will set it up to be a "Full" backup.

But if I do that, do I need to create a seperate storage set for each day? Otherwise Tuesdays Full backup would rease the storage set from Mondays backup, right?

Maybe I have to have 5 scripts for the 5 days, and each has its own storage set.

Thanks in advance.

Hello John,

Like yourself, I use Retrospect Express but I have never set up automatic scripting of the back-ups since I choose to schedule regular back-ups each week based on variations in my work schedule on the Macs.

I just spoke with my closest colleague who also uses it and we both agree that based on the software there is no doubt that you could schedule backups on every work day. Naturally, you would need to put in a new tape each day otherwise it would get erased each day to load the next backup.

The thought that both of us had was, why would someone want to backup their files everyday and keep the previous backups? Generally, a user wants the most recent backup possible if something goes wrong.

I presume you have the PDF covering the details of how to do the scripting. It is 1.6MB. I was just reviewing it with my colleague so as not to give you a phony answer.

I would be interested in how well it works out for you. Please let us know.
