Hello,
I am a computer nerd who has given up the frustration in the Windows environment. I just bought an iMac 2 months ago and wonder the following:
Can I run educational software where the CD claims it is for Windows and for MAC? When I tried a nominal install I got prompts explaining that I don't have Mac Classic... Software titles include 'Madeline' 'Caillou' and others.
Second: My iMac used to 'Go to sleep' where the power button glowed brightly and went dim. Now, the screen will go black but the hard drives keep spinning unless I force it to sleep by pushing the button on the back of the computer.
Thanks for a great product,
Gary and family

1. Because you purchased your iMac two months ago, it should have come with MacOSX Installition disks. Try checking out
http://www.apple.com/support/tiger/classic/ to know anything you need to about running older programs with OSX. To install Classic, check out this page:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.h.../en/mh763.html
2. This sounds like a minor adjustment in the Energy Saver preferences. Go to Apple Menu: System Preferences... . Go to the "Energy Saver" control panel. Make sure that the "Put computer to sleep" and "Put diplay to sleep" settings are exactly the same. This should put both the diplay and the computer/hard drives to sleep at your set amount of time.
Try this, and be sure to get back with us!
Thanks for using macosx.com,

Landon,
Thanks for the efficient, intelligent reply.
I tried getting the computer to sleep but still no luck unless I force it to sleep by pressing the power button. I reset all defaults on energy saver which was supposed to put it to sleep at 10 minutes. (The screen saver was set to 7 minutes.) This didn't work so I unchecked the two boxes that started with "Wake upon..." Still no luck... I don't have anything plugged into the back of the computer; not even the keyboard or mouse which are wireless... I do have an airport extreme in another room but my iMac won't sleep even if I select "Turn airport off" from the iMac. Any other ideas??
Thanks,
Gary and family

Your sleep problem seems a bit more difficult than I expected. I'll research this for you... in the meantime, go the generic update-everything-imaginable route (Apple Menu: Software Update), check that everything is up-to-date, and then download the Wireless Keyboard and Mouse 1.1 update here:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...areupdate.html
Hope this helps. I'll get back with you as soon as anything else pops up.

Well, I haven't found much of anything else. Your problem seems fairly specific. If the updating technique that I offered does nothing, I advise you to contact Apple. Maybe your support waranty is still valid?
Good luck,
-Logan
