Can I run Windows and boot from an external drive?

No, not from an external drive. The Boot Camp utility will only allow you to setup and use an internal hard drive. One exception to this is with a Mac Pro, which can have multiple internal drives. One could be fully dedicated to Windows, but it's still an internal drive.

Have you looked at one of the Virtualization solutions, either Parallels Desktop, or VMWare Fusion?

Or, you can run Windows apps without having Windows installed at all, with the Crossover app - http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/30730

What prevents you from trying out the Boot Camp solution?

According to the Boot Camp FAQ, you cannot. One alternative is to install Parallels or other virtualization app on the external.

You've got a 250 GB hard disk in your iMac, though; do you really not have the free space?

Thank you for your response. I was having problems partitioning my hard drive. Those problems no longer exist, thank god. So, what I did was went ahead and partitioned my hard drive, no problem.

Apparently my initial install of Leopard wasn't installed properly. I went to the Apple Store Genuis Bar for another issue that required a reinstall of the OS and since then, all's well!

Thanks for the quick response "earthsaver" and "DeltaMac". I appreciate it!nd I
