PDF files downloaded from Safari mistakenly open with QuickTime 7.1.3 rather than Adobe Reader 7.0.7. Does anyone know how to correct this problem?
Thanks

Hi Emily

Highlight a PDF file.
Right Click or Control Click to Get Info.
Go down to 'Open With'
Select Acrobat.
Click 'Change All'.

Hi Bob,
Sorry to be a pain. I think I followed your directions, but here's what happened. This is happening when I am searching on Google. So I found a pdf file on Google, I highlighted the file name. Then I right clicked. My only options were "google search" or "Copy". What am I doing wrong?
Thanks again,
Emily

Your question was about PDF files that you downloaded opening with Quicktime.

If you come across a PDF file on the web, try Right Clicking and see if you have the option in the sub-menu to download file.

Hi Bob,
I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, but it's been a tough computer wee. My computer crashed and I had to have OS X 10.3.9 reinstalled. So I didn't have my computer for a few days.
Anyway, I was hoping that my pdf problem would have gone away, but it didn't. When I download a pdf file from the web, it opens in Acrobat Reader, but it still opens in Quicktime when I try to read it on Google. When I right click I do not get the option 'open with'. Maybe I will just have download all my pdf's to read them.
Thank you for your time

Hi Bob,
I sent this response to you on 2/22/07 and didn't hear back, so I thought prehaps you didn't receive it. So, I'm resending it.

I want to be able to view pdf files in Safari with Adobe Reader without having to download them. Right now, when I double click on a pdf file it opens in Quicktime and I cannot read the file. I tried highlighting the file, and right clicking, but I did not get the option "open file" as Bob, the other tech, suggested.
Is there any hope?
Thanks

Hi BIRDLAND,
if you are running 10.3.?, then pdf files are always downloaded, even if you tell your computer to open them. They usually end up on the desktop. If you are using Tiger (10.4.?), then these files are still downloaded, but they are not saved to your desktop. (They are dumped in a temporary folder.) Tiger also allows you to view PDf's inline in Safari using Preview.
Bob suggested rightclicking on the file name. What he forgot to mention is that you should not highlight it first, just rightclick, then you should get an option "open..."
Hope this helped,
dl33

Hi dl33
the problem got solved by "andychrist" on your webforum. I had to reset my MIME settings for QuickTime in System Preferences.
Thanks
Emily
